Prison warder turns robber, lands in trouble

The bubble has burst for a warder who had allegedly been recruiting prison inmates for bank robbery, as he is now singing like a canary in police cell in Lagos.

The bubble has burst for a warder who had allegedly been recruiting prison inmates for bank robbery, as he is now singing like a canary in police cell in Lagos.

Emeka Emordi, the prison warder, also was also accused of being an amourer to robbery gangs.
Detectives alleged that the 29-year-old Onitsha, Anambra State-born Emordi had a hand in the spate of recent bank robberies in Lagos.

Describing him as ferocious and dangerous, a senior police investigator said Emordi's mode of operation was to study prison inmates, engage them in discussions and fish out the ones suitable for bank robberies.

According to the source, "he recruits young guys whose ages are not more than 30 years. He treats them well by giving them gifts and generally taking good care of them so as to entice them."
Emordi's cup got full and he landed in trouble when the police arrested the gang driver he allegedly recruited for the recent robbery incident at a bank in Lawanson, Lagos.

Speaking with the prison warder, who was in tears when he was paraded on Monday, Daily Sun was told: "Yes, I am a prison warder. I am attached to the State Command. Yes, I kept gun and ammunition, but I did not go for the robbery. What happened was that one of my friends, Nwachukwu brought one Chuma to me. Chuma brought some people too and said that they wanted to do business in my house. So, they brought out a bag containing guns."

He said he hid the guns in the ceiling of his roof, adding, "it was on a Thursday (that the arms were brought) and on Sunday night, they left for the operation. But the mistake I made was that they requested for aa driver and I brought my friend, Emma Okonkwo for them."
According to him, it was the driver that messed up the whole show. "He ran away from the bank operation and abandoned the vehicle. So, the police picked him up and he mentioned my name and that was how I was picked up. My brother, na so I see am oh."

On the allegation that he recruited inmates, he said, "no no no, what happens is that as a warder, I know most of them. Like the ones that Chuma used for the robbery, I knew them but I don't even know their names. You know, prison warders are like prisoners too, so you interact with criminals. I don't recruit any person.
